My Taskbar

Desktop with Taskbar unhidden
Saw Angie’s blog post which made me wonder why i never did do this =/, so here I am posting about my Laptop’s desktop. My PC at home has almost the exact same setup (desktop and taskbar-wise) with the exception of a few gadgets missing/extra. So yea they’re almost clones of each other lol. So let’s start shall we?
I think one of the first things that’ll come to your mind when looking at the first pic, is how my desktop is devoid of any links, shortcuts or files. One of the main reasons in keeping it so is because a cluttered desktop just make startups slower. So for those of you complaining of slow startups, try uncluttering your desktops and see whether it helps. Of course, having it sooo bare makes it seem nicer, neater, and allows you to fully appreciate the wallpaper =D.
So anyway my current theme has a wallpaper of a Saber Fanart drawn by a fellow singaporean, xephonia, entitled King of Knights, and it is really a work of art. So the theme also sports custom colours for the desktop and Aero interface (though the Aero Colours are hard to see due to it being similar to the desktop background). Sound scheme is a slightly modified version of the Windows 7 Nanami Madobe theme’s sound theme. If you guys like what u see and want it, the theme can be downloaded here[WINDOWS 7 ONLY].
2nd pic would be of my Taskbar. As of Windows 7, we can now pin programs to it, making it easier to find and start programs that we normally use. But unless u know what the icons mean, heres a brief run through of what are on my taskbar.
- Google Chrome
My web browser of choice. What’s more to say about this minimalistic browser from internet giants, Google? Blazingly fast with features like the omni-box and even bookmark sync. It even caters to Otakus/Anime Lovers by having themes like Miku, K-ON! and even Good Smile Company
- Winamp
My Music player. Although Windows Media Player plays almost anything now with the awesome codec from Shark007, FLAC playback support on it still is a drag, Hence I’m now using Winamp for all my musical needs.
- MSN Messenger
My Default IM client. Just because most of my peers and family use it. I use it for video calls too.
- Skype
Another IM client. Though I use it for the mass chat sessions and the occasional karaoke sessions.
- Windows Live Mail
Default Mail handler. I can read my mail faster and easier than opening my web browser. Not to mention the other features like Windows live Calender and it being a RSS feed reader. Kinda wished gmail worked better on it though. Might just switch to thunderbird and lightning though =/
- Steam
Quoted from wiki
“Steam is a digital distribution, digital rights management, multiplayer and communications platform developed by Valve Corporation. “
So seeing as to how i play games developed by Valve (L4D2 and TF2), It’s no surprise that i have this. I use it to lanuch other games as well.
- uTorrent
It’s lightweight and it downloads fast. It’s no surprise why it’s my torrent client.
- Sticky Note
I use this to take notes/to-do/what-to-do lists. You can see it in action near the top left hand corner of my desktop screen-shot.
But then, you might ask “where in the god forsaken world is the bleeping taskbar?”. Well my taskbar is hidden to prevent it from taking up my precious desktop space. So enter picture 3, where you see the taskbar unhidden and in all it’s glory. I experimented with placing it on the top at first, but I found it to be restricting as it might block the maximize/minimize/close buttons for the windows. So now it’s permanently at the left side of the screen.
Ok thats it for my tour of my desktop, gotta go back to work (seeing how killer my Common Test timetable is @_@)
